Let me start by saying that Joy McCullough's debut novel Blood Water Paint is one of my favorite books of all time. Certainly one of my favorite books I’ve ever worked on.
As some of you know, I absolutely love the Graceling Realm series. I’m gonna go ahead and say that it’s my favorite fantasy series ever. The world is stunning, the characters are badasses, and the stories are so enthralling! This fourth book in the series is no different.
This upcoming year, we’re publishing a lot of exciting books that I absolute love. Some of them were so sad that I cried big fat tears. Others were so addicting that I stayed up until 3AM reading. 2020 might’ve been a little disappointing, but I’ve always thought that our books have been amazing. And our 2021 lineup is no different!
The four books in the Moneybunny series by Cinders McLeod are great, very simple introductions to financial literacy for young children. Starting with EARN IT!, kids learn the early lesson that money doesn’t grow on trees but is earned over time through hard work and perseverance.

Authentic texts that students want to read are a great way to introduce topics. With that in mind, below are a list of stories that are great introductions to this historic moment in time. Whether in the classroom or at a storytime in the library (or virtually), nothing beats a great read aloud!
One thing I was sure I was going to do even if I didn’t do anything else was read. In the “before times” I mostly only read on my commute to work, during lunch, or if a book was particularly good, in bed finishing it until the wee hours of the morning (and then immediately regretting when I had to get up for work.) Needless to say, along with not making bread, doughnuts, or crocheting, I’ve been in a reading slump. Well, until I reread THE VALLEY AND THE FLOOD by Rebecca Mahoney.
We've extended our virtual read aloud and storytime permissions until the end of the year...but what books should you read aloud? We've got you covered!

The terms “classic” and “canon” are fraught. Who decides what book is part of the canon? What makes a book classic?
During this pandemic, I’ve been doing A LOT of reading. From romantic comedies to horror/thrillers, I’ve picked up so many books in the last few months that I can hardly remember what I’ve read. But one book I could never forget is SANCTUARY by Paola Mendoza and Abby Sher.
